BEST ELECTRIC TRICYCLES FOR ADULTS? REVIEWING VIRIBUS’ TRIGO ELECTRIC TRICYCLES

BEST ELECTRIC TRICYCLES FOR ADULTS? REVIEWING VIRIBUS’ TRIGO ELECTRIC TRICYCLES

The SC5 Fat Tire has been in the spotlight lately, but Viribus’ OG models, the Trigo tricycles, remain the pride and joy of many customers. Customers continue to love these adult tricycles because they represent everything that Viribus is about: meeting the riding needs of adult customers.

If you are not a big fan of fat tires or would like a cheaper option, Trigo trikes from Viribus are the best adult tricycles for sale right now. This article will delve deep into these three bikes, explaining features and simplifying specs so you the best option for your riding needs or that of the elderly person in your life.

THE TRIGO LINE

Viribus’ Trigo line is the first line of Viribus electric tricycles, and it constitutes three models: the Trigo Electric Tricycle (released in 2021), The Trigo Plus (released in 2022), and the latest, the Trigo Pro Electric Tricycle (which was  released in 2023).

What sets these Viribus tricycles in the Trigo line apart is that they are specifically designed to meet the riding needs of adult riders, enabling them to cover more distance than before while keeping them comfortable and safe.

Main Features of Trigo Tricyles

This adult-rider-centered theme is reflected in the design of each of these models. Let's examine the features that make Viribus Trigo Tricycles the best electric tricycles for adults.

An Ergonomic Design

Each model in the Trigo line is designed to accommodate a comfortable riding position. The handlebars are swept back and extended, and the seat is set upright.

This arrangement minimizes the space between the seat and the handlebars, allowing the rider to sit upright. Riding in an upright position has been known to decrease the pressure on the rider's back and joints.

A Low Step Through Frame

Each tricycle measures about 45 inches in height. The frame is low enough for elderly riders to step on and off without any additional physical stress.

A Safety First Approach

The motors in each of the Trigo models are fast enough for adventure and fun but not too powerful to spin out of control and put the adult rider in danger. You know an electric three-wheel bike is good for adults when the motor is strong and capable but also safe and controlled.

The Trigo Pro has the most formidable engine of all the Trigo tricycles. At 350W, it is still significantly less powerful than the 500W motor of the SC1 Fat Tire. Again, the Trigo is designed for comfort and safety, while the SC1 Fat Tire is designed for more adventurous purposes.

The Rear Carriages

TriGo Folding Electric Tricycle

Each of these models has a rear carriage with generous storage capacity. This feature makes Trigo bicycles a lifestyle companion, enabling them to effortlessly transport groceries, essentials, or personal belongings.

Making Your Decision: Which Model Should You Get For an Adult?

To most potential customers, the most obvious difference between these tricycles is the variation in their prices: the Trigo Electric is the most affordable, at $699. The Plus and the Pro offer more, and so are more pricey at $849 and  $999, respectively.

Obviously, these increasing prices reflect the superior technology and innovation Viribus is investing in each tricycle. But take the Trigo Pro, for example. Is it worth the extra $150 to upgrade from your Trigo Plus?

Well, let’s explore the specs in detail and help you make your decision.

1. MOTOR POWER

Motor power is important because several of Viribus’ customers use their bikes for commuting, and so, the engine power will let us see how much distance they can cover on each model. Here’s a table showing the different motors for each model.

Model

Motor Power

Trigo

250W

Trigo Plus

350W

Trigo with Suspension

350W

At first glance, most people are usually tempted to think of the Trigo as the inferior tricycle on this list, but motor power is not as straightforward as that. The advantage of the 250W engine is that it offers more range. The range is the distance your tricycle can cover on a single charge.

Understand Range

A 250W motor is less demanding than a 350W motor, so it puts less pressure on the battery. The 350W motor is faster but has a shorter 31-mile range, while the 250W motor is slightly slower but has a longer 33-mile range.

In comparison to the TriGo and TriGo Plus, the TriGo Pro boasts an impressive range of 38.5 miles, marking a substantial 24% increase. This is in part due to its superior battery (which we will discuss later).

How Fast Do You Want to Go?

It all depends on what you use your trike for. If your trike is mainly for recreational use or if you are of advanced age and safety and comfort are your main priorities, then a 250W motor would do nicely. You can go for the Trigo Electric Tricycle.

  • If you want to go faster or tackle hilly areas and challenging paths, keep reading. You will have to choose between the Trigo Plus and the Trigo Pro. Both have a 350W motor, which gives you more torque and climbing power.
  • While a 250W can only climb a slope with a 10° incline, the 350W engine gives you the power to climb slopes of 15° inclines.
  • Ultimately, the Trigo Pro would be ideal for an elderly advanced rider, and that is because it has suspension technology.

Understand Suspension Technology

Suspension in an adult tricycle is a component designed to absorb shocks and vibrations from uneven or rough terrain and provide the rider with a smoother and more comfortable ride.

Because the Trigo Pro is designed to go faster, it has suspension technology to keep adult riders safe as they explore rougher paths and routes.

2. BATTERY

Battery power is generally measured in Watts, and the wattage of the battery will influence things like how far you can travel on a single charge and the overall power available for the motor. So, a higher wattage battery generally means more power and potentially longer range.

Our three electric tricycles use different batteries. Let’s find out what this means to a potential rider.

Model

Battery Type

Trigo

36V 13Ah 18650 battery, certified by SGS

Trigo Plus

36V 13Ah 18650 battery, certified by SGS

Trigo Pro

48V 13Ah 21650 automotive-grade battery, certified by UL

Choosing Between the Batteries.

  • The 21650 model of the Trigo Pro has a higher charge-discharge capacity and longer lifespan compared to the 18650 model.
  • The 48V13Ah electric battery also has a longer range than the 36V13Ah model.

Though the 21650-model automotive-grade battery is generally more durable and suitable for long-term use, the preference of the rider and the distance they intend to cover on their tricycle are the deciding factors.

The more dependent you will be on your tricycle, the higher the battery you should choose. The Trigo Plus is a safe option, combining the safety of the Trigo Electric with the formidable battery and motor of the Trigo Pro.

Some Additional Information About the Batteries

  • They are all certified: The batteries used in each of Viribus’ Trigo line of tricycles meet UL2271 certification standards. To put it simply, certification is proof that the batteries are safe and reliable. For more information on UL certification, read here.
  • They are Removable: No matter which model you buy, you can enjoy the convenience of a removable battery. Detach the battery, bring it indoors, and connect it to the charger for a full charge in just 6 hours.
  • They Come with Extra Security Measures: There is no chance of your battery getting stolen. It comes with a lock and key for you to lock it in place and keep it safe.

3. TOP SPEED

Not everybody appreciates speed in the same way, especially among older people. Some of them may just want a safe and convenient way to move around, while others enjoy the thrill and excitement of going as fast as they can. Let’s see what the Trigo Line offers:

Model

Top Speed

Trigo

12.4 Mph

Trigo Plus

15.5 Mph

Trigo with Suspension

15.5 Mph

The combination of a superior motor and battery makes the Plus and suspension faster at 15.5 mph. This is a significant speed for any adult tricycle and good enough to give you a sense of joy and excitement without compromising safety.

With a top speed of 12.4mph, the Trigo does not lag too far behind and is ideal for riders who just value comfort and safety more than speed.

5. STORAGE SPACE

An adult tricycle with basket appeals to elderly riders because they often have a lot of things to carry around. The convenience of having everything you need at your fingertips while enjoying seamless loading and unloading always appeals to older riders.

Each of these trikes has enough storage space at the back to transport groceries, essentials, or personal belongings.

 6. ACCESSORIES

For relaxed rides and even more versatility, Viribus provides a number of accessories at a lower price for you to buy with its models. No matter which of these models you buy, you can pair it with any of the following accessories:

  • Viribus Accessories Package
  • Consists of a lock, a phone holder, and a mirror
  • Tricycle saddle: With a backrest for additional support
  • Bike Helmet: Solid, comfortable, with soft padding on the inside.
